Ernest Energy recently designed and delivered a large-scale solar solution across multiple sites for a farming operation in the Waitaki Valley.
Working with a single agricultural client, Ernest Energy delivered solar solutions spanning nine separate sites and providing a combined 1.2MW of renewable generation. Rather than relying on one large installation, each system has been carefully designed to support the specific energy demands of individual farming operations, creating a flexible and resilient energy network across the property.
The System
The completed project includes ground-mounted solar panel installations servicing both irrigation infrastructure and dairy operations, with each system tailored to suit the energy profile of its location. Together they form an integrated on-farm solar solution that supports the day-to-day running of the property while making better use of available land.
The Solution
Irrigation places significant demand on a farm’s electricity supply, particularly during the warmer months when pumping requirements are at their highest. By generating power on-site during daylight hours, the system will help offset these high energy demands, reducing operating costs while providing greater certainty around future electricity prices.
